The J&B® DJ Dreamteam welcomes new member

The campaign run by J&B® has almost come full-circle. You may remember this exciting campaign known as the J&B® Start A Party that put together a DJ dream team from Mzansi's cream of the crop in this profession. You may also remember that after the 10 DJ's were announced, other wannabee jockeys were given a chnace to submit their self-produced tracks and the public invited to vote at www.jbscotch.co.za, to decide who they felt had the skills to be named amongst the best in the industry.

Well, that skillful beatsmith has been selected. Ian, who calls himself DJ Iancredible (see first picture above), will be joining the likes of Fistaz, Oskido, Blackcoffee, Lady Lea, Euphonik, and Fresh, to name a few, to complete the J&B® DJ Dreamteam. After successful staging of the J&B® Start A Party events in Jozi and Cape Town, the fun still continues. The DJ's are busy churning the beats for the tracks to be included in the compilation album that will be released at the end of January 2009.

To those who cast their votes and those that attended the two parties, your support is greatly appreciated. I attended the Jozi leg of the party and is was absolutely awesome. The DJ I wanted to see more than anybody else was Blackcoffee, after the last time seeing him do what he does best at the after party to the SAMA's about 2 years ago. And he didn't disappoint, especially after my turning back from the gate as he arrived at the venue. I had a brief chat with him as he rushed into the DJ booth and rocked the audience.

Elizma chosen as Mzansi's favourite on So You Think You Can Dance

The young Capetonian has been crowned So You Think You Can Dance Season 1 dance queen by Mzansi after dancing for her life this past Saturday. The gifted dancer wowed the crowds as well as viewers at home, leading to Mzansi voting her their favourite dancer in the season finale of the reality dance show that delivered on its promise as a showstopper.

Unfortunatley I couldn't go to the show, and even missed the live broadcast, but from what I have heard, it was a smoking hot show, laced with an assortment of entertainment and endless fun.

Beating Thabiso, Ash and Kim, Elizma Wildschutte, also a former dancer for the late Lebo Mathosa, is now the proud winner of the competition, having walked away with the R250 000 prize that includes a funky Cherry QQ car, and R190 000 in cash. The obviously elated Elizma, according to the press release, uttered, "I'm so ecstatic! I'd like to thank South Africa for rooting for me; for voting for me; and for making me the winner tonight."

There we go, in a journey that has seen laughter, tears (both of joy and sadness), shock, intrigue and controversy, Elizma emerged victorious. She deserves every bit of the glory, she's an impeccable and immaculate dancer. She is now set to wow the country and the world, after proving she has what it takes to shine in this profession. It's amazing that our readers were on the money too. If you look at the poll on the right, 75% of the votes predicted Elizma would win, with Thabiso taking the 2nd spot. According to the press release, or if you saw the show on Saturday, you would know that Elizma took the top spot after a dance off with Thabiso. I wish I could have seen the show. I hope SABC1 have a repeat of So You Think You Can Dance Season 1 grand finale some time soon, I'd definitely not miss it this time. Mzansi talent is phenomenal.

All those that watched the show every Saturday and Tuesday since its debut, those that attended the elimination rounds, those that voted throughout the season, your support is greatly appreciated. We are waiting for Season 2 like hungry lions.

Showstopping Grand Finale planned for So You Think You Can Dance

It's almost the end of the road for the dance competition that has provided a bevy of entertainment, shock, intrigue an pure unadulterated fun; also bringing to the fore unmaginable talent from Mzansi's dance industry.

As you may have seen the results show last night, Elizma, Ashley, Thabiso and Kim are South Africa’s favourite dancers – and now its up to their fans to vote, vote, vote to ensure their number one dancer triumphs in the thrilling final of So You Think You Can Dance this Saturday, 1st November 2008.

The one-and-a-half hour special which kicks off at 6:00pm will see Elizma, Ashley, Thabiso and Kim dance for their lives in front of all five judges in this smash hit dancertainment show on SABC 1 Mzansi Fo Sho before South Africa decides who will win the ultimate prize! Valued at R250 000 the prize is made up of a car from Cherry provided by Twist and the rest in cash!

Will it be 29-year-old contemporary dancer from Johannesburg, Thabiso, 25-year-old contemporary dancer from Johannesburg, or Afro Fusion dancer from Pretoria, Kim, 27-year-old contemporary dancer from Cape Town, Elizma or 25-year-old all-round dancer from Pretoria, Ash?

Voting is now open until towards the end of the show on Saturday. All those that have been following and voting to keep you favourite dancer in the reality dance competition So You Think You Can Dance, here are some good news for you.

With only three weeks to go, SABC 1’s So You Think You Can Dance is turning up the heat in the build up to the grand finale on Saturday 1st November. Now it’s the public’s turn to win big with SABC 1 Mzansi Fo Sho’s favourite reality television show. Viewers are asked to enter and vote FOR their favourites which will KEEP their favourites in the competition. Members of the public that vote via sms, stand the chance of winning watches (valued at R500) as well as R1 000 in cash per week. All they have to do is watch the live show this Saturday 18th and the following Saturday 25th (from 6:30pm to 7:30pm) and to vote via sms for one hour after to keep their favourites in the competition.

Then, on the night of the grand finale (Saturday 1st November), viewers that vote for their favourite dancers also stand the chance to win a cash prize of R1 000 and Jeep watches by voting for their favourites. And should they send through the correct name of the dancer that they think will be South Africa’s first winner, they stand the chance of walking away with R3 000 in cash. Drama ensues as one of So You Think You Can Dance's favourites is voted off

Although I was not present at the past weekend's live braodcast of So You Think You Can Dance, I can only imagine the drama that heated up as one of the favourite and best dancers failed to make it into the top 8 in the competition. I'm afraid I cannot reveal who it is right now, until the formal revelation is done on the show tonight at 7:00 on SABC1. I'm sure a lot of people will be surprised and disappointed by the move as many, including me, thought this particular dancer will make it into the final 4 dancers competing for the R250 000 prize.

Back to Saturday's show, I watched it on TV and was actually amazed by the level of quality displayed by a few couples. Amongst them were Thabiso and Kim. They performed a sterling lyrical jazz dance routine, dancing to Mariah Carey's classic, If It's Over, from her 1991 album, Emotions. Everything just blended together so smoothly. Even the judges were very impressed with their magnetic and well-orchestarted performance. Another couple that danced equally well was Bathembu and Megan, both proving that they are a force to be reckoned with. Their performance was short of any flaws as they glided and moved swiftly and softly across the stage, doing what they do best.

Darren tried a second strike at mastering township style pieces with kwaito dance, with Marise this time, but it was not to be. There was no electricity like the time he did pantsula with Megan. Although Marise tried her best, the union just didn't gel together as intended. Elizma and Taekwando attempted the same type of glory as Thabiso and Kim, with Elizma shining more strongly. Like I have said it again and again, the competition is really getting stiffer. It will be interesting to see how everthing pans out in the next few weeks.

Don't forget to catch the half-hour So You Think You Can Dance reveal show at 7:00pm this evening on SABC1 to see which couple was voted off by the public, and ultimately knocked out of the competition by the judges. Lee and Taekwondo sizzle with their African contemporary piece

Things are so unpredictable in the So You Think You Can Dance competition, and it's getting very exciting. Last week we were raving about the pantsula jive that was done by Darren and Megan and this week Lee and Taekwondo stole the limelight with their sterling presentation of their African contemporary routine. It's getting a bit uneasy and diffucult too as most dancers voted out are not getting booted off because of their lack of talent or poor perforamce, but because someone has to go.

Lee and Taekwondo not only displayed their flair in the dance floor, but their zeal and commitment to go all the way in this competition. It was not easy though as Thabiso and Elizma displayed the same type of passion and focus as they both excelled on their kwaito piece. I must say it was the most exciting dance of the night because of the fusion of the current dance styles the whole country is enjoying. Bathembu and Marise were also part of the clan that danced beautifully, showing an unimaginable level of chemistry and fluidity in their dance.

Like I said last week, things are getting tougher by the week. For tonight's reveal show, a couple who danced together on Saturday's live show, are out of the competition. Things are heating up on So You Think You Can Dance

The fourth week of SABC1's dance reality show So You Think You Can Dance was sizzling hot. The competition is getting tougher and the contentants becoming more and more aggresive in their performances. This past weekend's show was filled with fireworks as they all fought to stay in the competition for yet another week.

The highlight for me for this week was Darren and Megan, who did a riveting pantsula routine. Megan is known for her outstanding dancing skills and could have easily pulled off the pantsula dance. Darren on the other hand, was a complete surprise. Maybe not really a surprise, but more of a shock as everybody was bowled over by the display of brilliance in the execution of the township dance genre. My second favourite couple were Ashly and Kim. Their chemistry is wonderful and their fluidity when dancing together shines through.

For a noteworthy mention, I have to praise Bathembu and Marisa for their awesome performance. The fact that they did so well, only dancing together for the first time (after Marisa's partner, Blaze, was booted off last week after his stint at the hospital from an undisclosed sickness) proved that they are true professionals, very flexible and determined to see themselves amongst the top contenders at the end of the competition. My other favourite couple, Elizma and Katlego also did their thing. Despite the judges feeling that Katlego was outshined by Elizma, I thought they were both really good.

Overall, it was a very entertaining show. The dancers and their choreographers deserve all the accolades they get for their respective outstanding jobs. Tune into So You Think You Can Dance results show on SABC1 tomorrow evening at 19:00 to see who was placed in the bottom 3 for this past weekend, who danced for their lives and was saved and who is out of the competition. Another pair leaves So You Think You Can Dance.

Things are really heating up on So You Think You Can Dance. Saturday's show was sizzling hot. Another boy and girl are leaving the competition after the judges deliberation following the viewers votes, which wil be revealed in the 30-minute reveal show tomorrow night.

I was very saddened by the news that Blaze was not well as he is one of my favourite male dancers. I already know who was booted off, but am not allowed to share until it's revealed to the masses tomorrow evening. So, watch the show tomorrow evening at 19:00 where you will know who will no longer continue in the competition.

My highlights for Saturday's show was definitely Megan, who keeps impressing not just the viewers at home, but the judges as well. She is set to go far in the competition if she keeps the momentum and even show more strength. Equally impressive was Ashley, as he has been consistent since the very beginning. It seems every week there is that person who the judges praise, only to find viewers not very impressed. Because of their quality performances, head judge Harold saves them. Watch the show to see who that dancer is this week.

I may not go to the live show this coming saturday, as I'll be attending the Tamia show. I'll tell you how that goes after the weekend. Alistor was booted off So You Think You Can Dance this week

Although I liked what Alistor was doing since his auditions, he failed to show versatility with his style when he was asked to dance for his life this past Tuesday; hence leading to his departure the show. I'm glad that more of my favourite dancers are still vying for the crown, the R250 000 prize, including Blaze, Tamara, Megan and Thabs.

I didn't go to the live show last week because I had some other stuff to do, but I'm definitely going this coming Saturday. I'm looking forward to see how all the contestants have improved from last week and to see who will get the axe from the judges this week. I shall give you all the happenings at the So You think You can Dance live show after the weekend. Also, we will be giving away tickets to next week's show (27 September) next week, so keep it locked right here.

So You Think You Can Dance - first duo sent home

I was invited to the first live broadcast of the dance reality show So You Think You Can Dance last Saturday, which was held at the home of the show at Standard Bank Arena for the rest of the competition. The live show will take place every Saturday where one male and one female dancer will be eliminated until the victor is announced. On Tuesdays will be a 30 minute recorded show where the contestants leaving the show will be revealed.

So, there we were on Saturday evening enjoying a thunderous showcase of talent and entertainment. Initially, the contestants were paired and they all danced their feet off to escape the wrath of the judges sending them home. Unfortunately, 2 of them didn't give enough and were therefore eliminated. The two names will be revealed in the segment to be broadcast this evening at 19:00. I know who was eliminated but am not allowed to reveal the names, so check it out tonight.

My favourite dancers are definately the couple that danced the tango to Grover Washington Jnr. and Bill Winters' Just The Two Of Us, as well as the two that danced to SexyBack by Justin Timberlake (both couples on the pictures above). The lady who did the tango was brilliant, even the judges attested to that, admiring her charismatic spunk and enigmatic energy. Megan also deserves a mention as she killed it with her partner.

Some of the familiar faces I saw amongst the crowd at the VIP and media section of the set included Ningi Mhinga (Yvonne Chaka Chaka's son), Kaizer Motaung Jnr., SABC1's Leo Manne, SABC1 General Manager Ray Nkwe, and current Miss SA Tansey Coetzee.

I had interesting chats with different people, including the executive producer of the show, Duncan, who said his dream for the show was to thrash Generations in terms of ratings; the beautiful actress Vanessa Harris, who I was first introduced to when her and the late Bill Flynn were promoting the movie Running Riot. It was a lovely night, filled with wonderful entertainment and great conversations. I'm looking forward to the next show this coming Saturday. Even if I'm not there physically, I'll definitely be watching it on TV.
