Max Payne following on Sin City filming technology. And some goodies to give away, courtesy of Nu Metro

Earlier this afternoon I had a pleasure of seeing Mark Wahlberg's latest flick Max Payne. Mark plays a role of Max Payne, a law enforcement officer who lost his wife and child through a suspicious and confusing manner. His quest to find the killers that destroyed his dreams of a perfect family leads him to an underworld filled with darknes, intrigue and danger. Could the people he trusted be the very same people responsible for the murder of his family? The film takes you through the journey leading to his realisation that there is a bigger hand at play here than just murder. The film started very slow but picked up halfway through. The twist in the end is worth watching the film all the way through.

Another highlight for me was the imagery (the colouring process) in the film. It is reminiscent of the use of black and white colours, with a splash of red that we all saw in the movie Sin City. It just takes your breathe away. Fimlmakers should be applauded for their creative imaginations. I also wanted to see how rapper Ludacris will fair in this movie. I hadn't seen him since his appearance on John Singleton's Oscar-winning Hustle & Flow. His role was very small, and it's a pity that he didn't manage to use the screen time he had effectively. He should have taken a cue from Common on Street Kings, who made sure that whatever time he had, he had to use it wisely and be remembered for it.

Max Payne opens at Nu Metro cinemas nationwide next Friday, 24 October 2008. We also have some goodies to give away, thanks to our sponsors Nu Metro. We are giving away 5 DVD hampers to 5 lucky readers. Please go to YEAHBO.DOT.NET for more details.

Our exclusive screening of Righteous Kills a sounding success

It finally happened on Wednesday night, and we are excited. We had been planning the exclusive premiere of Righteous Kill, starring Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, 50 Cent and Donnie Walhberg, amongst otherss, since September. Montecasino was buzzing with excitement from our guests, as they reveled to the entertainment we provided them. The readers of YEAHBO.DOT.NET, celebrities, MTV and Trojan guests showed up in numbers to make yet another of our exclusive preview screenings an absolute success.

Our partners for the night, Trojan, provided us with free condoms which were included in the goodie bags they contributed to. Also inside the goodies bags were workout vouchers, sponsored by Virgin Active in Cresta, as well as other merchandise including sweat towels, caps, keyrings, pens, and water bottles. Nu Metro also pitched in with DVD's, t-shirts and caps. Two record distribution companies, Universal Music and Gallo Music Record, came on board and supplied us with CD's that we also gave away. These included 50 Cent and G-Unit latest albums from Universal; and Plies and Gym Class Heroes from Gallo. Thank you very much to Virgin Active and their staff in Cresta for the goodies (Jenni, you are a star. You too Buhle).

The night went pretty well. Sizwe Dlomo made a speech and reminisced, relaying to the guests that his very first interview with the media after becoming MTVbase's first ever Mzansi VJ was with YEAHBO.DOT.NET. You know we are exclusive like that. Please check the interview out HERE.

It was really a fun night. Thanks to Minki from Nu Metro for hooking us up, and helping us out with the organization of the event. Thanks to the guys from MTV for their support. They featured the event on Sizwe's show Player on the 13th of October and gave us a mention when they gave away tickets to their viewers. Thanks to Sizwe for the kind words during his speech. And once more, thanks to all the guests that braced us with thier presence. To Trojan, all our gratitudes for your involvement. The staff at Nu Metro Montecasino, you were of great help too. We appreciate Nu Metro's involvement and their support of our ideas. And most of all, thanks for keeping YEAHBO.DOT.NET running and growing. This year alone, we are over 1.3 million hits already.

Don't forget, Righteous Kill opens at cinemas today, 17 October 2008. Go out there and show your support and just to enjoy the movie.

The Secret Life Of Bees delivers the goods

There has been a lot of buzz surrounding the movie The Secret Life Of Bees in the U.S., with many premiere events taking place in the last few weeks. My interest was peeked the first time I saw the title in the schedule that we receive from the local distribution companies. After looking at the cast, that interest grew even more, to the point that I submitted my proposal to Nu Metro to host an exclusive screening of the movie as we have done occasionally. However, just last week I was informed that the release date for The Secret Life Of Bees has been pushed to January next year.

When I saw the movie this past Wednesday, I had a few reservations regardig the fact that singers make the bulk of the cast. Many singers or artists who attempt to act have disappointed before, but the formula in The Secret Life Of Bees is a winning one. The three artists, Queen Latifah, Alicia Keys and Jennifer Hudson did a superb job in their respecting roles. It's very rare that when you look at a singer or artist's acting you even forget that they are actually singers. This is how powerful and real their performances were. Of course Queen Latifah transitioned well and has proved that it is possible to be good in both since I first saw her on Set It Off. Alicia Keys had a rocky start, but did better on The Nanny Diaries. Even for Jennifer and her Oscar-winning role on Dreamgirls, you couldn't even compare her role as Effie White to her role alongside another talented youngster Dakona Fanning, who I have been a fan of for a while now. To round off the cast is an exceptionally talented Sophie Okonedo, who has bowled me over every time I see her and equally sizzling in the 3-time Oscar-nominated Hotel Rwanda.

The Secret Life Of Bees is one of those movies that provides on all levels of what a film should provide, from acting to the flow of the story, to the the directing and all the other trimmings. The only disadvantage I foresee for the film is the way it will be received here. However, if it is marketed the right way, it should do fine when it releases in February 2009. And, I'm going to try and get an exclusive screening for all of you my favourite peeps that read the blog and the website YEAHBO.DOT.NET. Keep it locked here for details as the release date approaches.

Drama ensues as one of So You Think You Can Dance's favourites is voted off

Although I was not present at the past weekend's live braodcast of So You Think You Can Dance, I can only imagine the drama that heated up as one of the favourite and best dancers failed to make it into the top 8 in the competition. I'm afraid I cannot reveal who it is right now, until the formal revelation is done on the show tonight at 7:00 on SABC1. I'm sure a lot of people will be surprised and disappointed by the move as many, including me, thought this particular dancer will make it into the final 4 dancers competing for the R250 000 prize.

Back to Saturday's show, I watched it on TV and was actually amazed by the level of quality displayed by a few couples. Amongst them were Thabiso and Kim. They performed a sterling lyrical jazz dance routine, dancing to Mariah Carey's classic, If It's Over, from her 1991 album, Emotions. Everything just blended together so smoothly. Even the judges were very impressed with their magnetic and well-orchestarted performance. Another couple that danced equally well was Bathembu and Megan, both proving that they are a force to be reckoned with. Their performance was short of any flaws as they glided and moved swiftly and softly across the stage, doing what they do best.

Darren tried a second strike at mastering township style pieces with kwaito dance, with Marise this time, but it was not to be. There was no electricity like the time he did pantsula with Megan. Although Marise tried her best, the union just didn't gel together as intended. Elizma and Taekwando attempted the same type of glory as Thabiso and Kim, with Elizma shining more strongly. Like I have said it again and again, the competition is really getting stiffer. It will be interesting to see how everthing pans out in the next few weeks.

Don't forget to catch the half-hour So You Think You Can Dance reveal show at 7:00pm this evening on SABC1 to see which couple was voted off by the public, and ultimately knocked out of the competition by the judges. I'm sure they faced a very difficult time with their decision. After watching tonight's episode, please go to the comments section below and leave your opinions.
