Win with GI JOE!!!

The famous figurines that features in kids lives as part of the toy industry is coming to the big screen near you. GI JOE: The Rise Of Cobra has been adapted into a motion picture and I must admit, I really enjoyed it.

Starring big names like Sienna Miller, Marlon Wayans and Channing Tatum (who seems to pop up everywhere these days - he is in Johnny Depp's Public Enemies, as well as in Fighting with Terrence Howard), it is one of the biggest action blockbusters to come out this year. It's filled with thrilling scenes and the plot is not too shabby too. I also enjoyed the reasonable comedy, which you should expect in any movie a Wayans brother is involved in.

The film opens at cinemas on Friday the 14th of August 2009. It has become some type of a norm for us to give you all the exclusives, therefore YEAHBO.DOT.NET, together with United International Pictures (UIP) is giving away hampers to 4 lucky readers. Win with Notorious!!!

You may have read and heard a lot about Notorious, a biopic based on the life and death of famous Brooklyn rapper Christopher Wallace, also known as Notorious B.I.G. or Biggie Smallz, over the past few months. I've just had a pleasure of watching it this afternoon, and surprisingly enjoyed it a lot.

I say surprising because I had reservations about the actors selected to play the respective characters. Although I don't doubt some of their acting abilities at all, I wasn't sure how they would fair knowing or being familiar with the people their characters are based on. I have to give it to the debutante, Jamal Woolard, who gave a reasonable portrayal of Biggie. Veteran actress Angela Basset takes the cake for her role as Biggie's mother Vollata Wallace, and there actually are no surprises there. Biggie's real son with singer Faith Evans, Christopher Jordan Wallace, did a great job playing his father from about age 8 to early teens. A young lady who blew me over was Naturi Naughton (who used to be with the group 3LW) who gave a great performance as Bigg's jump off Lil' Kim. There were a few reports about how Lil' Kim didn't like how she was portrayed in the film, so I have to give it to Naturi under the circumstances.

Two of my favourite actors, Derek Luke and Anthony Mackie, are also on the bill, playing Sean Combs (P. Diddy) and Tupac, respectively. Like I said before, knowing or being familiar with Diddy, I wasn't really sold on Derek's interpretation of his character. The same goes for Anthony Mackie, the resemblance to Tupac came across, but the actual mannerisms and how Tupac carried himself, was not impressive. Even the guy who plays Suge Knight, that ruthless nature of the Death Row leader we came to know didn't come across very well. I have to admit though that the casting of Antoinique Smith as Faith Evans was on point. The ladies look so much alike, only if Antoinique gave more in her performance.

Overall, Notorious was a good film, with lots of information for those who didn't know about how the West Coast versus East Coast rap beef began, as well as the fact that these two fallen stars were actually friends before all went wrong. This actually makes what transpired very sad, an emotion that distinctly comes across as you watch Notorious. Another noteworthy fact, and one that I gleefully applaud, is the use of the actors' real voices during the stints when they were singing or rapping, well the lead vocals anyway.

Notorious opens at Nu Metro cinemas across the country next Friday, 20 Februray 2009.

To make your Notorious viewing experience even more unforgettable, Nu Metro and YEAHBO.DOT.NET are giving away 5 Notorious Soundtrack albums to 5 lucky winners. All you have to do is answer the following simple questions:

1). What is the name of P. Diddy's record label that Notorious B.I.G. was signed under? 2). What is the name of the second album that Notorious B.I.G was about to release when he died in 1997?

Horror movie buffs, get ready for a totally different and exilerating experience with a horror movie completely done in HD 3D technology. Please peep the trailor below for the taste of what to come when Scar 3D releases at Nu Metro cinemas nationwide on the 31st of October 2008. Just in time for Halloween.

Now, the trailer:

Max Payne following on Sin City filming technology. And some goodies to give away, courtesy of Nu Metro

Earlier this afternoon I had a pleasure of seeing Mark Wahlberg's latest flick Max Payne. Mark plays a role of Max Payne, a law enforcement officer who lost his wife and child through a suspicious and confusing manner. His quest to find the killers that destroyed his dreams of a perfect family leads him to an underworld filled with darknes, intrigue and danger. Could the people he trusted be the very same people responsible for the murder of his family? The film takes you through the journey leading to his realisation that there is a bigger hand at play here than just murder. The film started very slow but picked up halfway through. The twist in the end is worth watching the film all the way through.

Another highlight for me was the imagery (the colouring process) in the film. It is reminiscent of the use of black and white colours, with a splash of red that we all saw in the movie Sin City. It just takes your breathe away. Fimlmakers should be applauded for their creative imaginations. I also wanted to see how rapper Ludacris will fair in this movie. I hadn't seen him since his appearance on John Singleton's Oscar-winning Hustle & Flow. His role was very small, and it's a pity that he didn't manage to use the screen time he had effectively. He should have taken a cue from Common on Street Kings, who made sure that whatever time he had, he had to use it wisely and be remembered for it.

Max Payne opens at Nu Metro cinemas nationwide next Friday, 24 October 2008. We also have some goodies to give away, thanks to our sponsors Nu Metro. We are giving away 5 DVD hampers to 5 lucky readers. Please go to YEAHBO.DOT.NET for more details.

You know the screening of Street Kings a few months ago was phenomenal, but we plan to make this one even better.
