SWOP to take Mzansi film industry by storm

Today will see the launch and release of the new local comedy SWOP. Directed by silver and big screen magnet Hlomla Dandala, and starring the likes of Kabelo "KB" Ngakane and Audrey Pooe, SWOP will show South African film making in the light you've never seen it before.

Speaking with Blaque magazine for their cover feature last month, Hlomla praised the way the Nigerians have catapulted their Nollywood film industry with a string of their successful films. He suggested that South Africans follow in the same footsteps, making films for us, and not for sole recognition of other markets. That's exactly what he has directed his energy towards at the helm of his debut feature film.

I'll be attending the premiere tonight and will do a review after seeing it. I'll also be interviewing Hlomla and one of the lead actors (Aubrey) in the next few days. Keep your eyes and ears open.

UPDATE: I haven't gotten a chance to watch the movie yet. It turned out there was no screening at Maponya Mall last Friday, it was just the film's release party. The director and stars of SWOP attended, as well as many other well known personalities like Nonhle Tema, Nzinga, Ashley Dowds, and Pabi Moloi (who has been everywhere with that Tymon dude). I witnessed a very humble moment when Kabelo "KB" Ngakane rocked up with his mother and sister, that was cool man.
